Yesterday McKenzie turned one week old! There is much to be thankful for even in that one short week. McKenzie continues to do well in the NICU. We will be bringing her home this weekend, and we just can't wait! After our visit with her today, we brought home one of her blankets for Amber to check out. It was sort of anticlimactic, but we are pretty sure the two of them will be best friends in no time.
All the nurses in the NICU now know us well, as their little unit has become our second home. We have spent lots of time driving back and forth from the hospital... cuddling, breastfeeding, and covering our baby girl in kisses. As much as we wish she could have been home with us all this time, we are so thankful for the staff of nurses and doctors that have provided such great care for her. She really has been in the best hands.
As a mom, it has been difficult for me to surrender control to other caregivers. But God has been teaching me that I never will be able to control McKenzie's life, and I might as well start learning this lesson right from the start. We are so thankful for the prayers and support we have had from our friends and family. McKenzie has been born into such an amazing community of people, and we are so excited for her to get to know them!
